Lauterbrunnen Valley hiking

Hikers who explore this region remember it for the rest of their lives. After all, few people have ever seen prettier scenery.

For one thing, the Lauterbrunnnen Valley is home to three world-famous mountains — Jungfrau, Eiger, and Mönch. With one-of-a-kind excursions like the Jungfraujoch, these mountains give visitors plenty to do.

You won’t believe your eyes when you see the view from the Jungfraujoch railway station. This high vantage point is unbeatable, and the snow never melts at this altitude. Although you’ll need to take a long train ride to reach the Jungfraujoch, you won’t get bored during your journey. You’ll spot amazing scenery through the window, and you’ll marvel at the genius of the Swiss engineers who built this railway.

But visiting Jungfraujoch isn’t the only thing to do here! This area is home to some of the best hiking in Switzerland, with many trails weaving through the mountains. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, 72 jaw-dropping waterfalls cascade over the valley’s cliffs.

Just outside the village of Lauterbrunnen, the Staubbach Falls barrel over the side of a mountain. At a staggering height of 974 feet (297 meters), you won’t want to miss out on a visit to this scenic waterfall. And if you suddenly want to write a poem about its beauty, don’t suppress that. Staubbach Falls has already inspired poets like Goethe and Lord Byron — so why not you? Just remember to wear a raincoat, or you might get drenched!

Let us show you around!

If the Lauterbrunnen Valley sounds too good to be true, then you have to see it to believe it. Luckily, we explore this area on several trips! Tag along on our Bernese Oberland Traverse, Eiger to the Matterhorn, Best of the Swiss Alps, or Exploring the Jungfrau tours.
